WhatsappWhat is it used for?

WhatsApp is a freeware, cross-platform and end-to-end encrypted instant messaging application for smartphones. It uses the Internet to make voice calls, one-to-one video
calls; send text messages, images, GIF, videos, documents, user location, audio files, phone contacts and voice notes to other users using standard cellular mobile numbers. Can also be used offline and as soon as the receiver connects the waiting messages are delivered.

An example of how this tool can be used to assist in Literacy education;

Such a synchronous communication can help express simple text between illiterate learners while using audio messages as well. One example is a call-chain activity where the educator initiates the flow by sending a simple word to the first contact on the learners’ chain list accompanied with an audio message of the same word … pronunciation and spelling word by word. The receiver has to send a new word initiating with the last character of the previous word to the next contact while appending the new word to the chain. Finally the last student send the completed chain to the educator.
