Twitter is an online news and social networking service where users post and interact with messages, "tweets," restricted to 140 characters. Registered users can post tweets using a clueword called a hashtag that identifies a specific topic or event, but those who are unregistered can only read them. Users can follow any amount of other users while it is possible to retweet any tweet of other users.

An example of how this tool can be used to assist in Literacy education;

The educator can tweet literacy tasks like a word or a phrase which the learners can hashtag with similar words in an effort to enhance their literacy skills.
